Operation: Military Kids’ S.W.A.T. Team

What does a S.W.A.T. member do?

S.W.A.T. Letter Writing Assemble care packages for youth who are affected by a loved one’s deployment.
  • Educates and helps others become aware of the issues families face when a service member is deployed. Should try at least two of the following suggestions.
  • Speak to groups about Operation: Military Kids.
  • Organize other youth to assemble care packages for youth who are affected by a loved one’s deployment.
  • Offer to be a pen pal to a youth during their loved one’s deployment.
  • Be part of video productions that illustrate how youth react when they have been affected by a deployment.

Getting involved on the S.W.A.T. Team

Top Five Reasons YOU should become a member of the youth S.W.A.T. Team:

5. You will meet others in grades 7-12 from all over the state who share a common interest in helping spread the message about supporting military kids.

4. You understand that kids whose parents and siblings are serving our nation are heroes and you want to find a new way to say "Thank You" to them.

3. You want to help plan and host day camps, overnight events, and other activities to make sure younger children who might have a loved one deployed know that Ohioans appreciate the sacrifices they make when their parent is away.

2. Did we mention how great this leadership, organization, and public presentations will look on college admission and scholarship applications?

1. And the number reason to become a S.W.A.T. team member is...because there have been 18,000 Ohio youth affected when a family member serves our nation in the military.

A Call to Action

Five easy steps for getting involved:

  1. Make a commitment to yourself to participate in at least two S.W.A.T. team activities within the next year.
  2. Fill out and return the application form. This form will put your name on the OMK list serve, which keeps you informed of upcoming activities.
  3. Plan to help with one OMK activity.
  4. After you have helped with one activity, plan one presentation or activity on your own.
  5. Upon completion of each activity submit an activity report form to Ohio's Operation: Military Kids.
