Operation: Military Kids Camp at 4-H Camp Whitewood
July 23 - 27, 2006
26 suddenly military kids, ages 8-16, from across Ohio, enjoyed five days together in Windsor, Ohio at 4-H Camp Whitewood, July 23-27, 2006. On the first day of camp, campers decorated their rustic cabins and were entertained by getting to know each other. Campers were all at camp because they had a parent in the military and most of them had experienced a parent being deployed. Camp programs on the second day of camp featured the building and launching of bottle rockets and hot air balloons and was later highlighted by an evening campfire. The remainder of camp offered campers sessions that built skill competencies such as swimming, archery, and boating. Evenings were filled with open swimming and boat building activities. One night at camp, youth were treated to a night at the movies and were entertained by Hollywood's movie, Cool Runnings. Each night during cabin time, campers were offered discussion and journaling time, which allowed them to learn how others deal with having a parent away from home on military assignments. A very special thanks goes to all of the organizations who sponsored these kids to attend to camp for only a small registration fee.
